THE TRAINING NOTEBOOK

Choosing a minimalist workout tracker for iOS

Compare the logging workflow, device support, history limits and data access that matter when choosing an iOS workout tracker.

Start with a session you actually need to record

A minimalist tracker should make your own workout easy to record. Choose one familiar routine and check whether you can enter actual sets, repetitions, weight and a short equipment note. A short feature list alone does not prove that an app will suit your workflow.

Compare access, not just the download price

Check what happens to older workout history and longer chart ranges, which features need a purchase and how you can take your data elsewhere. Prices and offers can differ by region. Read the purchase screen rather than assuming that a free download includes every feature indefinitely.

Where Weights fits

Weights supports iPhone and iPad and combines saved routines, set logging, custom exercises and notes. The released listing documents PDF and CSV export. This article is published by the developer of Weights, so it is not an independent ranking. Premium includes full workout history and additional statistics. Check your installed version for the history and chart ranges available without a purchase.

When to compare other options

If social sharing, Android support or a Watch workflow matters, inspect those requirements explicitly. Hevy documents social features; Strong documents iPhone, Android and Apple Watch support. Their official pages establish documented capabilities, not how well they will work for you. See our separate comparisons and try your own representative session.

A practical selection checklist

Record an uneven set result, add a setup note, revisit the workout, inspect the history boundary and find the export option. Check text readability and the device you plan to use. These tasks tell you more than a “best app” label. We have not conducted a timed or hands-on competitor benchmark.
