THE TRAINING NOTEBOOK

Exercise notes worth keeping

Use equipment settings, weight conventions and movement names to make a workout record understandable.

Answer a future question

A useful note tells you something the sets cannot: “seat 4, narrow handle” or “weight shown is one dumbbell.” Keep the wording short enough to read between sets.

Distinguish equipment and variations

Two machines displaying the same number may not be comparable. Name the variation consistently and note a changed setup. Avoid treating a different exercise as a new personal record for the old one.

Change the convention explicitly

If you switch from one-dumbbell weight to the combined pair, leave a dated explanation in your record. Otherwise a chart can appear to double without any change in performance. In Weights, notes accompany the exercise logging workflow.
