THE TRAINING NOTEBOOK
What belongs in your first workout log?
A practical recordkeeping example for exercises, sets, repetitions, weights and notes.
Record the result, not the intention
Your routine is the plan. Your log records what happened. Start with the exercise name, the weight unit and the repetitions for each completed set. If your intended three sets become two, preserve the two actual sets.
Use one clear example
For an exercise completed at 25 kg for 8, 8 and 7 repetitions, enter three separate results. Add a short setup note when it explains how you performed the movement. These numbers illustrate recordkeeping, not a recommended workout.
Make the next session easier to interpret
Use the same exercise name and weight convention next time. If you change machines or movement variations, record that difference. Review the previous session as context; do not overwrite today’s result to match it.
